All Treats

October 31, 2008

Tonight was Trick or Treat and we had a BLAST! Owen was adorable. Well, at first he was a pistol in the back yard. I was trying to get a picture of him in his costume and 1) He refused to wear the hat and 2) He kept saying “No take my picture, Mama”. I finally chased him around the shed and got this one.

After that, Mike got Ben in the wagon and off we went. Owen LOVED trick-or-treating. He went up to each house and said “Hi” really loud and then “Trick or Treat”. After they gave him candy he’d say “Thank You” and some neighbor’s even got a “Have a nice day!”. After he’d leave the house he’d yell to Mike and I, “Look, I got candy for the party!”. I think he got the party concept from his Diego Halloween book.

It was so wonderful seeing our child enjoy something so much. Mike and I were smiles from ear to ear. We felt bad when it was time to go home because he was having so much fun. In fact, we came home to warm up, then took him back out to a few more houses.

Here are some pictures from the evening. They aren’t the greatest because it got really dark really fast, but I don’t care… we had an absolute fantastic time and that is what matters most. Next year when both boys can participate it should be even better.

Bummer

October 27, 2008

Today we went to a park to try to have family pictures taken. None of them turned out. =( We’re going to try again next Sunday… cross your fingers for us.

But, I was able to get a few of us not as a group of 4. It was the only thing that made my attempt not so heartbreaking. I’ve been DYING for a nice portrait of the 4 of us for months, not to mention one of my 2 boys together. I will keep trying. I’ll eventually have to succeed!!

4 Boys

October 23, 2008

This past weekend my sister stopped in and we tried to get a quick picture of our 4 boys together. This was the best we got. I’m actually surprised we got Owen to sit next to Ben. And compare Alex and Owen… they are 21 months apart, but almost the same size!! Roman and Ben are only 11 weeks apart. Mike’s height is totally the dominant gene in our kids. Sorry Maiorana boys… your cousins are going to be super tall!

Alex loves to pose for pictures with his little brother and I got this beauty. I wish Owen would take notes from his cousin on how to treat your baby brother, but that is another story. Roman looks so much like Alex did as a baby, only with a more round face. Love these boys!!

Just like Dad

October 21, 2008

Owen really looks up to his Daddy. He thinks he’s the greatest and wants to be just like him.

For example, yesterday when Mike was mowing the lawn, Owen got out his bubble mower to mow the grass along with Daddy. It was so funny and totally made my day.

Yeah – I’m cool… I have my hair spiked and I’m a big helper to my Dad.

And just for fun… remember in a previous post I said that Ben loves puffs?? Well yesterday he fell asleep eating them. A puff induced sleep =) As you can see, Maxie was waiting patiently for any that fell on the floor. She cracks me up.

Air out the germs

October 18, 2008

Earlier this week, I was sick… even had to take a day off work. Now the boys have the sniffles and runny noses. Lovely.

Well, after dinner tonight, Mike and I decided to take the boys to the park to get them some fresh air. Of course I took the camera along and got a few keepers, especially of Benny.

I don’t know if airing out the germs made it better or worse because I feel that by the time we left their poor noses were running more than when we got there, but they seemed to enjoy getting out of the house.

Vroom Vroom

October 16, 2008

I received this red car as a gift from 2 college friends at my baby shower for Owen. Owen loved it, and now so does Benny. He LOVES things that have lights and make sounds. This car has all that and more and he’s really enjoying it.

Speaking of cars… yes, we did it again. We got a new car. Well, not brand new, but new to us. Ever since we got the van, the boys were never in the Subaru. It didn’t even have car seats in it. Mike and I only used it to drive back and forth to work or run errands by ourselves. In fact, we only put less than 7,000 miles on the car in the past year. Since we hardly drove it, we couldn’t justify spending that much per month on a car, so we traded it in on a nice used Mazda 3 and I love it. We’re saving a ton per month and we’re going to put that towards the van to pay it off early, then pay off the Mazda. If all goes well in 3 years we will be car payment free!!! =)

We’re hoping once we’re car payment free we’ll stop this car buying addiction we have. Seriously, this is car #7 for us in the past 8 years. I know, we’re nuts. But leases ran out, we had a baby, then another baby, etc. which changed our needs vehicle wise. I think we should be set for a while. Heck, if we make it 3 years without buying a car I think we’ll be considered in remission!

Pumpkin Patch

October 13, 2008

I had off work today (Thanks, Christopher Columbus!) so we had a family day. The four of us went to Ashcombe Farms and had a great time. Owen had an absolute blast going down the slides into the big piles of hay. In fact, he had so much fun doing that, he could have cared less about the pumpkins. He also had fun playing with some other kids at the Children’s Garden and he loved the hay ride. He put his arms up in the air and went “WEEEEE” and was yelling “Go fast… horses go fast!”. He even told everyone he was going to be a cowboy for Halloween and say ” Yee Hah!”. The people on the hay ride fell in love with him… ummm… wonder why?!?

It was a great day, with perfect weather. Warmer than I thought it was going to be. The pumpkin patch outfits I got the boys were too warm to wear. We had such a wonderful time. I wish every weekend was a 3 day weekend.

Pumpkinfest 2008

October 12, 2008

There is a big park we go to all the time about a mile and a half from our house and this weekend is the 10th Annual Pumpkinfest there so we decided to take advantage of the GORGEOUS weather and take the boys.

Ben was on stimulus overload. He was sitting up, holding onto the bar on the stroller and taking it all in. They had several activities for Owen so he got to have some fun too! He shared a pumpkin funnel cake with mommy and daddy (although he only wanted the sugar and wasn’t a fan of the cake), he got a temp. tattoo from the radio station, got to try his hand at being a quarterback and tossing a football, and went into a petting zoo and petted a goat, pony, bunnies and saw a cow, rooster, and some chicks. He really enjoyed the animals.

Sorry the pictures aren’t that great. It was REALLY sunny and crowded so I had to snap fast!

And for fun… I had Mike take my picture with the Sarah Palin cardboard cut-out at the McCain-Palin stand. I’m still not sure who I’m voting for, but I really really like Sarah Palin. My college friends “pick” at me because of it so I just had to take this picture.

It was a fun family day and we get to do it again tomorrow when we take the boys to the pumpkin patch!

Can you believe it…

October 9, 2008

Owen actually sat for me and smiled for the camera! I was so happy! I have hardly any pictures of him because he hates the camera, so I was thrilled to capture this!

Speaking of Owen, he’s quite the character recently. Here are some of the things new in the world of Owie:

  • He’s starting to speak very clearly and you can have mini conversations with him now. He even likes to talk on the phone. He says words we didn’t even know he knew and he uses them in the correct context.
  • He’s got such an imagination. The other day while playing with his CARS cars, he had a birthday party for Ramone and was singing “Happy Birthday to You”… ADORABLE!
  • He’ll pick up books and tell himself a story from the pictures and at the end he’ll say “That was a great story”.
  • He’s picked up the bad habit of asking for things “Now!” and he hates to share his toys with Ben and everything is “Mine”… Mommy and Daddy have to nip those unwanted behaviors in the bud, but I know it’s normal for his age.
  • He is our back seat driver in the van and tells us that “the light is green, go”. “It’s a red light, stop.” “Crossing the bridge”. “Turn that way.” (He knows his way to the park and Target!)
  • He says funny things like, “Wow, that was a close one!”
  • He knows his number until 11 and most of his letters too.

I could go on and on. He’s changed SOOOO much over the past 4 months. I really love this age. He’s a little boy with just a tad bit of baby in him. I love the innocence in his reactions to life. I wish I could bottle up for him to have forever!

Future Steeler Fans

October 6, 2008

My good friend from work, Andee, and I were both pregnant at the same time with little boys. Well, today I had the pleasure of taking pictures of her little man, Ian, and for the fun of it, we took a picture of Ben and Ian together since they were both in their Steeler gear for game day.

Aren’t they adorable?!? Both our families are HUGE Steeler fans so we know these two will follow in the footsteps of the Black & Gold!
