He passed!

February 28, 2008

Today Owen had his food challenge at the allergist to test his milk allergy. When he was tested in September, his numbers had dropped, but not enough to allow dairy. They wanted him to come back in about 6 months for the food challenge to test his limits.

So, today was the big day. Under medical supervision Owen was given milk every 15 minutes for a certain period of time. They would check his vitals and look for a reaction. They also did another prick test. Everything came back A-OK and he passed with flying colors! We’re so excited. His milk allergy is gone!

The doctor wants us to wait 2 days before we really start introducing dairy again, but we had to give him a treat tonight. Before we found out he had a dairy allergy (13 months old) he loved pizza, so to celebrate, tonight we took him to one of our favorite pizza places for his first taste of pizza in over a year. It’s his daddy’s favorite food so Mike was thrilled for this moment. In fact, he was so happy he let me bring my camera to capture the moment on film!

Thinking… YUMMMO… I forgot how good this stuff was!

He went pee pee on the potty! Not once, not twice, but three times!

He’s started to show an interest so we figured why not give it a try and see what he does. Each day when it’s bath time he says “Potty”, so we put him on the potty and he pees! He then gets down, claps and says “yeah”, then flushes the toilet! I can’t believe it.

Grandpa and Grammy Park got him his own potty the other day so we’re going to see how that goes. I hope he keeps up the good work. I’ve heard it’s hard to train little boys. Guess time will tell.

Ben is so sweet… it’s truly pure love. I’m just in aw of his tiny little self. I forgot how neat the newborn stage is. You tend to only remember the sleepless nights and bad parts of the first weeks home and you forget about the sweet newborn noises, that wonderful baby smell, the adorable tiny body parts, the soft wrinkled skin and that peaceful sleepy baby face.

I didn’t have my good camera until Owen was almost 11 months old, so I wanted to take advantage of my new found photography love and try and capture all those wonderful newborn aspects on camera for Ben.

Here are just a few of my favorites that I took last week. There are a few more but I want to save them as a surprise for his announcement.

Night Night

February 22, 2008

Owen picked out his jammies tonight and he decided he wanted to wear the doggie PJ’s his Grammy Thomas got him for Christmas. How stinkin’ cute is this kid?

I’m shocked that he actually made eye contact with the camera. He usually runs away from it. His love for my D50 is not the same as mine =)! Over the past few days I’ve been taking all kinds of newborn shots of Ben (they’ll be coming to the blog soon) and I think he felt left out that I wasn’t taking pictures of him so he was all about the camera tonight. He even kept saying “Cheese!”.

Oh – and I’m in love with this picture… Owen loves his silky blankies and always sniffs them. To date I haven’t gotten a good picture to capture this habit of his, but I think this does the trick.

Ka-chow Baby!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Lots of love in the Thomas family this year… Mike and I are in love with our new little guy and our family of four, Ben is loving his sleep, and Owen… well he has a new love and that is the Disney movie – CARS. I think we watch it every day.

Well, Mike let me sleep in today and I was awoken by my wonderful husband with Valentine’s Day cards, a beautiful baby in his Valentine’s Day outfit, and a cute little 2 year-old in a red shirt delivering me 3 red roses from my 3 boys and guess what else… a CARS Valentine’s Day balloon. I was laughing so hard because it was SOOOOO cute. How perfect for Owen to give his mommy a heart CARS balloon.

Here is a picture of Owen with the balloon and roses…

And here is a picture of Ben in his adorable Valentine’s Day outfit from Mimi.

Snow Day

February 13, 2008

We finally got snow today!! I think it’s only the second time this winter. Mike took Owen outside to play in the snow because he was so curious about it. He kept looking out the door saying “Snow! Snow!”.

Up until today every time we took Owen in the snow he hated it. We thought we’d give it another try. He was OK for the first three minutes…

Then this… big old crocodile tears.

I think he is one of the only kids in the world who hates snow. We don’t know if it’s the snow he hates or the fact he has to wear gloves. Anyway, I think he’d vote for us to move to a warmer climate some day.

Thomas Family Update

February 10, 2008

Things here with our family of four are great… here is a quick (OK not so quick.. I lie) update.

1) I’m LOVING LIFE as a mom of 2. Seeing them together melts my heart. It makes me want more kids (but don’t tell Mike…). I forgot what a miracle it is to bring a child into this world. It is pure happiness every day. Sometimes what you think will make you happy and what you are truly meant to have are 2 different things. 3 years ago I wanted no kids… now I have 2 beautiful boys that give my life meaning and purpose. Being a mom is what I was meant to be. Thank you GOD for this wonderful gift!

2) I can’t believe it! My baby boy is 2! I look at Ben and think that is how small Owen was 2 years ago. WOW… time just flew. It makes me just want to love Ben up even more because I know he will be 2 before I know it. I cried when I put Owen to bed on his birthday. He gave me the biggest kiss and it totally made my day. He’s such a sweet sweet little boy.

3) Some of you don’t know but I went through a period of time when I was really bummed out I wasn’t having a girl. I totally got myself bent out of shape that Ben was a boy for no reason. I mean a girl would have been nice, but there is just something about seeing my 2 boys together that makes me SO HAPPY he was a boy.

4) I’m an aunt again! Mike’s brother had his baby on Tuesday. A little girl named Abigail Mae Thomas. She looks just like Sara.

5) Ben is doing really well. He’s very content. The nights aren’t too bad, in fact he slept for 7 hours on Thursday. Not too shabby! He gets fussy at times, but it could be worse. The only time he really cries is when we undress him.

6) We took both boys to the Dr. on Friday for their well visits. Owen is just over 27 lbs and 37 inches. That puts him in the 100% for height and 48% for weight. Ben lost some weight and is only 7lbs 3oz but that is expected.

7) My recovery with this pregnancy has been a piece of cake. I’m totally back to normal and only have 9 more pounds to lose to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I guess my body was meant to have babies.

As you can tell life is grand in our little world. It doesn’t get much better than this. I’m really enjoying my time at home with Mike and the boys. That is one plus of having a husband that is a stay at home dad. I get to spend my entire maternity leave with my whole family. It’s going to be very hard going back to work.

PS- I’m going to be a blogging maniac over the next few weeks so check back often for lots of updates and pictures on our family.

Owen is 2!

Happy Birthday O-BABY!!

I can’t believe it! Our Owie is 2! The past year has been a blast. From watching him learn how to walk, build a vocabulary of over 150++ words, develop the sweetest personality… I could go on. He has become such a dear dear little boy that continues to melt our hearts on a daily basis. Don’t get me wrong, he has his moments, but the little things he does to make us laugh and smile far out weigh the hissy fits (hey… he’s 2… it’s bound to happen).

We were suppose to have his party this past Saturday, but since I was in the hospital because Ben came early we had to post-pone it. It was suppose to be this coming Saturday, but my mom and Mike’s mom had the idea to have it the day I came home from the hospital since all our family was still in town. It didn’t give time for the little details, but we had lots of help from family to pull it off and it turned out great!

Big Brother Owen

February 6, 2008

One of the things I was most worried about when I found out I was pregnant again was how Owen was going to react once the baby arrived. I was also worried how on earth I would love another little boy as much as I loved him.

Well, the moment Ben was born my fear for sharing my love was completely washed away. It was an instantaneous love that was indescribable. I now had two beautiful little boys to adore.

I was so excited for Owen to meet Ben for the first time hoping he’d feel the same way. He was OK for the first 30 seconds, then that all turned upside down. Owen was not very happy to have someone to share Mom and Dad with. Multiple trips to the hospital all turned out the same way… Owen pushing Ben away and not wanting much to do with him AT ALL. I was like great… this is not going to be fun. A rough transition was in our future.

BUT… then we came home. That day was pretty hectic because we had Owen’s birthday party within hours of arriving home, but I think that was a good thing. The attention was on him, not the new baby. By nights fall, Owen started to become more curious and was really taking a better look at this new baby in the house.

Fast forward to today and things are great. Owen is loving his baby brother now and it is SO CUTE!!

Today we got him involved with giving Ben a bath and he took the wash cloth over his belly and said “Giggle Giggle Giggle“. Then after dinner, Mike was changing Ben’s diaper in the nursery and Owen heard Ben crying. He said “Baby?” I said “Go check on Baby Ben to see if he is OK.” He jumped out of the chair and started to yell as he walked up the stairs “Baby… where are you?“.

I almost cried. It was SOOOO sweet. He even gave him a kiss on the forehead when I was feeding him tonight.

After the fiasco in the hospital I thought we were in for a rough transition, but everything is working itself out perfectly. =)
